School Council

Our School Council play an active role in the life of our school. Two class representatives are elected from each class (Y1-Y6) creating a council made up of 12 children aged 5-11. The School Council meet at least every half-term to bring the child voice of the school alive and make sure it is heard throughout the school.

During the 2023-24 school year the School Council:

  • identified littering to be an issue within our community and pledged to raise awareness of littering through organising a litter pick over a weekend..

Following a suggestion from a council member that a whole school assembly would raise awareness of the issues surrounding littering and the environment, the school council delivered an assembly around the importance of disposing of rubbish correctly to protect our local landscape and ecosystems. .

  • ·discussed ways in which they could replace the condemned playground trim trail.

The representatives held meetings with their classes to find out what the children of the school wanted as part of the new area. With this information, they spoke to the headteacher, Mrs Millward, and designed a plan that was then used to collect quotes from playground equipment businesses. Once the designs and quotes arrived, the school council then discussed and chose the replacement trim trail. This can now be seen in use in our playground.

During 2024-25 school year, the School Council:

  • ·with a link to a school in Zambia, the school council discussed varying charity fund-raising initiatives that could help with supplying essential supplies to the school. Each pair of representatives collected ideas from their classes before having the final discussion on collecting copper coins and placing them in the shape of Zambia in the playground.

  • Class Councils were asked to discuss activities that they wanted to 'have a go at' before leaving Asfordby Hill Primary School. These ideas were to be included in the '25 things to do before leaving AHS' booklet which the School Council then debated before making a decision on behalf of all the children in the school.
